Marie Balotelli has been regarded as the epitome of wasted talent and he confirmed this once again after securing a move to French club Nice on transfer deadline day.
Nice have been able to secure the 26-year-old on a free transfer just two years after he had completed a £ 16 million move from AC Milan to Liverpool. Then-manager Brendan Rodgers claimed that the signing of Balotelli was a huge gamble, but he was left with little options in the transfer window to assist Daniel Sturridge after the departure of Luis Suarez. The gamble, though, has been a major failure, as the striker has been able to score only four goals in 28 games.
Even though Liverpool only recently sold Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace, it seems that manager Jurgen Klopp did not see Balotelli as a member of the squad. Apart from Balotelli and then decay, have also allowed Luis Alberto. The Spaniard has joined Lazio for around £ 4.3 million, which marks a significant loss over the £ 7 million that they paid to the striker three years ag. However, the sell on clause inserted into his contract is worth 30% and Liverpool will be able to receive some fee if they sell him on later.
“We are very pleased to welcome Mario. We hope that Nice, in a family atmosphere, will help him rediscover his joy for the game. We both know that nothing will be easy but with the desire and support of all our fans, we’ll help him to flourish and bring his talent to the service of the team,” said Nice president, Jean-Pierre Rivère, after announcing the arrival of Balotelli. Nice will be hoping that the player can improve the squad ahead of the Europa League campaign. The club qualified for Europe after finishing fourth in the league last season.
