Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard claims that he is feeling extremely proud and happy to be following in the footsteps of legends like Landon Donovan and David Beckham at LA Galaxy.
Gerrard will be the new marquee player at LA Galaxy, who are one of the big names in North American football. He made the switch from Liverpool to the MLS on a free transfer after his contract with the Merseyside club came to an end. After signing a two-year contract with LA Galaxy, Gerrard has begun training with the team. Regarded as the finest midfielder of his generation, Gerrard will be a major force to reckon with in the MLS.
Even for a big player like Gerrard, it will be tough to go beyond the history of Landon Donovan at the club. Donovan recently retired from all forms of football, but his achievements with LA Galaxy will not be forgotten. The history, though, will be forgotten for the time being since the club will be looking to get the right kind of form after the arrival of Gerrard. Bruce Arena and LA Galaxy have made a very poor start to the season. Despite winning four out of the last five matches, the club still find themselves fourth in the table.
“I’m really excited to be with the LA Galaxy and you mentioned two names there, David Beckham and Landon Donovan, who’ve contributed terrifically well for this football club and if I can follow in their footsteps I’ll be very, very happy. First and foremost I’d like to thank the club for getting me here. The club and [head coach] Bruce [Arena] were very aggressive in making me come here and I’m very excited to be here. I’m just looking forward to getting my boots out and getting on the pitch,” said Gerrard.
