Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that it was striker Mario Balotelli’s decision to not be part of the match against Arsenal due to an unspecified medical condition.
The striker was not in the matchday squad and it turned out to be a very bad day for Liverpool. The club lost 4-1 against the gunners and it has effectively ended any hopes of Champions League qualification for next season. Balotelli has been a controversial figure at Liverpool this campaign. After making a £ 16 million move from AC Milan in the summer, the striker was seen as a major gamble due to his troublesome nature.
More worryingly, Liverpool have had to deal with poor form from the striker throughout the campaign. He has failed to settle into the team that previously scored a lot of goals with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez leading the line. For much of the campaign, Sturridge has found himself on the sidelines. This has contributed to Balotelli playing on his own up front for the Reds.
